The Wellington Women’s AFL team was established in 2019 and consists of two clubs:
With this, we aim to develop a competitive team to challenge other regional teams. Additionally, we aim to provide opportunities to develop skill and fitness within an inclusive and diverse community. We have established a Women’s competition in the Wellington region and pathways which feed into AFLNZ Premiership, NZ Representation (Kahu-Youth & International Cup 2022) and into AFL in Australia.
These opportunities to participate, develop skills and represent Wellington and/or New Zealand is made possible by our coaches Shane Goodwin and Peter Geale, our volunteer umpire-Frank Grieve, our photographer- Jun Tanlayco, our volunteers, our sponsors, and the support provided by AFLNZ.
There is a strong cross-code connection with Wellington Women’s GAA (Irish football), but we have players representing many sporting backgrounds, including all Rugby codes, Netball, Football (soccer), Basketball, Hockey, Water Polo, and more!
New to the sport of AFL? We are fortunate to have two of NZ’s premier AFL coaches involved, so we will get you up to speed and kicking goals in no time!
To stay up to date, join the Wellington Women’s AFL Player group on Facebook to find out when the next training session or game is!
